Outstanding Tour

I e-mailed Ivan prior to our cruise and asked him about accommodating my wife's electric scooter. His detailed response and cooperative attitude led to our tour with The Native Choice. Upon arrival my wife drove her scooter the four blocks to the office where we were met, offered a beverage, a chair, and prepared to load for the tour. We were in a new, air conditioned vehicle with four other guests and a private guide and driver. Nice ride to the ruins and thoroughly enjoyed the guide's explanations of the area, culture, history and surroundings. A highlight of the tour was lunch in a Mayan village, prepared over an open fire, making tortillas and enjoying a superb seven dish lunch. We had an uneventful ride back to the port - they dropped us off right next to the port stores for a short scooter ride back to the ship. This is a class outfit. We have traveled, cruised and toured over 70 countries and this ranks in the top tier. The service, attention to detail and tour ranks high on our list. Highly recommended!

EXCELLENT EDUCATIONAL TOUR

15 min. walk from the ship. Directions to the Native Choice office were easy to follow. There were 5 people on our tour age range range 50 to 60's. Van was comfortable ride was educational. Fabiola one of our tour guides explained the Mayan culture, vegetation and wild life with maps and pictures as we drove to the site. She gave us gum from a gum tree so we could try it and showed us how natural plant dye could color water. A short stop to pick up some fresh pineapple slices and then we were at the ruins. At that point Edder our other tour guide took over and explained the ruins and the Mayan culture to us. We were able to climb the ruins and got some great photos. Again pictures and maps were shown to help visualize the city better. We were shown resin incense and allspice leaves. Unfortunately the monkeys did not make an appearance. So interesting I could have stayed there for several days. Following the tour we had a bag lunch and a quite ride back to the port. Most excellent time we had on our vacation.

Best Excursion on this Cruise

This was the one tour I really wanted to take on this cruise. When Holland canceled the cruise I was disappointed, however, so happy when I found it was available through Native Choice.
Their office is a short walk from the cruise port and their directions were spot on. Lots of folks on site to greet everyone, get signed in and loaded on the busses with bottles of water. Erick, Enrique and Mario were our tour guides and bus driver. Erick was amazing. He gave us lots of background information on the location, flora and fauna of the area. Once we got to Chacchoben the group was split in two which made it a lot more enjoyable for everyone. With just 20 people in the group we could move around easily, hear everything Erick had to share and thoroughly enjoy the site. The site is very well maintained, trails are easy to follow and no bugs! Erick was a wealth of information. He is of Mayan decent and his family was involved in the archeological dig of this site - he even has a picture of himself, as a child, on the site. He studied archeology and was able to provide great info on the placement of the buildings in relation to the sun/moon, solstice and equinox. He explained the Mayan calendar and the numbering system. It really was great. Plus, we saw spider monkeys!
I definitely recommend this excursion and ask for Erick!

Outstanding Tour

What a fantastic experience. Lorenzo, our guide was so knowledgeable, he made it a true learning experience, answering our friend's questions left and right. the tour was grand, it was as if we were the only ones there, I do not understand why others are not using Native Choice. Our driver, very good. Everything was clean and enjoyed the box lunch too. Muchas Gracias a todos!

Great Tour

Our tour was so very interesting! We never expected to walk away with so many facts about the area and the ruins. Our bus ride was about 50 minutes and Erick, our tour guide, gave us so much information in that time. The tour itself was not rushed and very easy to navigate. We also got to see monkeys in the trees while walking around! Bonus! Erick answered so many questions from the group and told many wonderful stories about the people from that culture. Thanks Erick, for making our tour so special!

Fantastic Tour/Awesome Tour Guide

This was a great tour all around. Our driver, Stachio, was excellent and we couldn't have had a better tour guide than Rose. She simple was incredible and answered every question we had. She even let us stop at Pineapple Town and introduced us to pineapple with chili pepper. Who knew it was so good? Thanks for a great experience!

Top Notch!

I am so thankful we booked through Native Choice! Once you get into the port you have navigate your way out of the tourist compound; but it was so easy to find the Native Choice office with the directions on our confirmation. Several locals asked us along the way if we needed help or confirmed we were going in the right direction. We were greeted and checked in quickly. The bus was clean, cool and comfortable try to sit on the side opposite the driver as there are many things to see along the way on that side. We visited the ruins, it was not crowded and was beautiful and rich in culture and history. Our guide Patrick was so friendly and knowledgeable and just full of interesting facts and descriptions. It was just a really relaxing and perfect tour. Highly recommended. Muchas gracias!
